Clinical Trial of Piroxicam Cinnamate in Patients with Osteoarthritis

Abstract
|
|
|
Cinnoxicam (piroxicam cinnamate)is a new synthesized pro-drug made by esterification of piroxicam.
We studied clinical efficacy and side effects in 30 osteoarthritis patients.

@EN 1) In clinical efficacy 20%of pain at rest and 5.3% of pain on motion after 5 days treatment, 40%, 10% after day 10 and 60%, 31.6% after day 15 were reduced respectively, and pains are reduced obviously. In functional evaluation of joints,
there
were no significant changes seeing 10% difference after day 15
2) For overall therapeutic efficacy after day 15, 19 patients (63.4%) evaluated themselves improved, 10 cases (33.3%) no changable and only one case evaluated to be worsened. Physician evaluated that 20 cases (66.7%) were improved clinically and

cases (33.3%) had no obvious effect.
3) There were no abnormality in blood pressure, anemia, liver and renal function after 15 days.3 cases (10%) ahowed positivity in occult blood test in feces.
4) During 15 days of treatment only one case discontinued treatment due to dyspepsia. Skin rash, stomatitis, diarrhea and other hypersensitivity reaction were not observed.
In conclusion, cinnoxicam showed significant therapeutic efficacy with once a day treatment in osteoarthritis patients and its analgesic effect seems to be good Because it has few side effects such as gastroenteric disturbance it seems to be
useful
drug
for long-term treatment in osteoarhritis patients.
